The Yale-NUS faculty, in their first vote as a collegial body, unanimously approved the following Core Statement on Freedom of Expression:

We are firmly committed to the free expression of ideas in all forms-a central tenet of liberal arts education. There are no questions that cannot be asked, no answers that cannot be discussed and debated. This principle is a cornerstone of our institution.

The faculty also also voted unanimously to recommend that this statement be included in the faculty and student handbooks which are currently being drafted.

  1. Yours is the sixth blog I have read on this issue. You really did an outstanding job at discussing everything quite thoroughly. I really gained some knowledge from viewing your post, and wanted to just express my appreciation for it

  2. A serious issue regarding the disgraceful denial of tenure to one of Singapore’s most important social and political critics by Yale NUS’ sister institution, Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
